Marking their 17th annual day of awareness, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation are once again driving the safety message on ‘Day for Daniel’—Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness initiative.
This year, on Friday 29th October, ‘Day for Daniel’ will once again be a national day of events, activities and action for the Foundation, this time embracing the theme of Help-Seeking and Reporting—reinforcing the responsibility of adults to keep kids safe while encouraging kids to report abuse and seek help from an adult safety helper.
On this day every year, Australians across the country—including parents, teachers and educators—are encouraged to Wear Red, Educate and Donate on ‘Day for Daniel’, in honour of Bruce and Denise Morecombe’s son, Daniel, who was tragically abducted in December 2003.
18 years on, Bruce and Denise have dedicated their time to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation—providing child safety education to children and young people and supporting educators, parents and carers to do the same.
“Day for Daniel is an opportunity for Australians to make a statement that crimes against children are not acceptable in modern Australia, and although it may seem scary, I encourage all kids to be brave enough to report anything that makes them feel unsafe—it’s up to adults to be ready to listen and, most importantly, to believe,” said Bruce Morcombe.
Despite the ongoing challenges of the current pandemic, ‘Day for Daniel’ remains one of the most prevalent child safety awareness initiatives in the country—and the proof is in the Foundation’s supporters. In 2020, the Foundation experienced a record number of registrations to support the day and in 2021, the record has been broken yet again—with more than 5,500 schools and early learning centres, plus hundreds more businesses and individuals across Australia joining the Foundation on their national day of action.
“Bruce and I are once again overwhelmed with the support and love offered by schools, businesses, our partners and other individuals right across the country,” said Denise Morcombe. “We thank you for sharing this vision with us by educating young people and their families on this day,” she said.
With the support of Isuzu UTE Australia, Bruce and Denise Morcombe are travelling across the country in one of the safest vehicles on Australian roads, the Isuzu D-MAX—which alongside its MU-X SUV counterpart was awarded the maximum 5-star safety rating from ANCAP’s latest stringent testing criteria.
