25 May 2026

The 2026 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s Grand Final has concluded in historic fashion, with Auckland FC and Sydney FC going head-to-head in a landmark decider at Go Media Stadium in Auckland.

Played on Saturday 23 May in front of a passionate crowd of 28,374 and a global broadcast audience, the Championship match marked the first Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s Grand Final to be held on New Zealand soil - a milestone moment in the competition’s continued evolution.

After a fiercely contested 90 minutes of football, it was Auckland FC who emerged victorious, defeating Sydney FC 1 - 0 to claim the 2026 Isuzu UTE A-League Championship.

From the opening whistle, both sides settled into a measured and disciplined contest, with clear chances limited as Auckland FC controlled territory and Sydney FC relied on their experience in their eighth Grand Final.

The defining moment came in the second half, when Auckland FC midfielder Cameron Howieson broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, his deflected strike edging the hosts closer to a historic breakthrough.

Sydney FC pressed late, but Auckland FC held firm to secure a 1–0 victory - claiming their maiden Isuzu UTE A-League Championship in just their second season and becoming the first New Zealand club to lift the trophy, as fans at Go Media Stadium and audiences watching across Channel 10, Paramount+ and Sky Sport NZ were part of a history-making night for the A-Leagues.

Following the match, Isuzu UTE Australia Managing Director, Mr Junta Matsui, congratulated both teams on a hard-fought Grand Final performance.

“The Isuzu UTE A-League Grand Final once again highlighted the continued growth of professional football across Australia and New Zealand,” said Mr Matsui.

“While the contest was closely fought throughout, it was a single moment that ultimately defined the match - a testament to the fine margins and composure required on the biggest stage."

“On behalf of Isuzu UTE Australia, I would like to congratulate Auckland FC on a historic championship victory. To achieve this in just their second season is a remarkable accomplishment and a proud moment for football in New Zealand. I also commend Sydney FC for their strong season and Grand Final performance."

The men’s decider followed an exciting Ninja A-League Women’s Grand Final held the previous weekend, where Melbourne City were crowned champions after a 3 - 1 victory over Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park.

The showpiece highlighted the continued growth and competitiveness of the A-Leagues, with Melbourne City securing their fifth Championship title following a dominant performance on the biggest stage.
